SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana sensation Sipho Mbule featured on the national broadcaster sport show Sport at 10 on Wednesday night.
The sport programme is hosted by ex-SuperSport International television presenter Thomas Mlambo.
Mbule, who formed part of the senior national squad that drew 1-1 with Ghana and lost 2-0 to Sudan in the 2022 AFCON qualifier matches, was interviewed on his experience with the team, the coach and his training programme at United during COVID19.
“I think Coach Molefi Ntseki is a good person and he knows football. It is just that the good results did not coming our way.
This is the worst feeling ever, I’m not happy and I’m sure the whole team felt the same. We were looking forward to go to Cameroon, playing in a big tournament like AFCON is any player’s dream, but it didn’t work out,” said the Matsatsantsa midfielder.
The Sport at 10 anchor touched base on the COVID19 pandemic and how it affects the players’ lives and their training programme.
“We planned our own schedule when COVID19 hit the world. We started our own lockdown challenge and we also have our own fitness programmes at United,” he said.
Mbule, who was on the interview list with the legendary news anchor Noxolo Grootboom who bowed out of the Aucklandpark studios this week after 37 years in the newsroom, was asked as to whether he knows her.
“Although I was very young, I would watch her reading the news on the television,” said Mbule.
Mlambo asked random but relevant questions including the one that links Mbule to the PSL outfit Kaizer Chiefs.
“I don’t know anything formal regarding me joining Chiefs. This is just a rumour, I also saw the news in the newspapers. I’m still contracted to SuperSport and still have another year with them,” Mbule emphasized with confidence.
The Sport at 10 presenter also touched base on SuperSport’s big youth policy and how it helps the young players.
“Development is taken very seriously at United, the young players at the Academy are keeping us on our toes. Competition is very stiff as they also want to follow on to our footsteps,” said the midfielder.
The Free State born-star was also asked about his favourite team in the domestic league growing up and how he sees his team’s chances in the league.
“I supported SSU from Harmony academy, I’m a Tsatsantsa forever, since from Harmony to United,” he said with a smile.
“The hunger is still there, we still have a few games left , I think if we can do well in those remaining nine matches, we will finish where we want to,” he concluded.
