Through a campaign called #BeyondLimits, NPO Love It Together in partnership with SuperSport United FC, are appealing to the public to help raise funds for a prosthetic arm for Blessing Mohale.

Eleven-year-old Blessing from Lotus Gardens was born without a left forearm, and whilst he is as capable as any other child his age – he rides a bicycle, plays soccer and ties his shoelaces – a prosthetic arm would aid him in so many other ways.

Carol-Ann Meltzer, the founder of Love It Together explains that she took on the project as it would not only help Blessing but would provide the opportunity for Blessing to spread hope by showing that there is real, tangible, life-changing help for those with disabilities.

“Love It Together administers and assists needy individuals to make things better through projects, programmes and through donations. Blessing represents hope - he is a celebration of the human spirit and we want to help him to spread hope. We are appealing to everyone to donate and help raise funds as we celebrate disability month,” explains Carol-Ann.

Blessing was assessed by Orthotist and Prosthetist Dr Christopher Harper who will do the first procedure and Prosthetic. He will need another prosthetic arm at the age of sixteen and then another one a few years later. The raised funds will cover the procedure, Prosthetic, Physiotherapy and other ongoing support for the maintenance of the prosthesis and will also go to other needy individuals via SAOPA – the South African orthotic and prosthetic association.

A Big Soccer Fan

For those who love South African soccer and attend matches, Blessing and his father are a familiar sight. They are both big soccer fans, with Blessing playing the trumpet alongside the club band at games. This is how SuperSport United FC became involved with the #BeyondLimits project to raise funds for Blessing’s Prosthetic arm, and the medical treatments required around the procedure.

SuperSport United have adopted the #BeyondLimits project and there will be live on-air announcements made by the coaches before the DStv Premiership games. CEO of SuperSport United Stan Matthews says, “Raising funds for Blessing is a personal project for us. Blessing has been a big supporter of SuperSport United and he’s been part of the soccer fraternity for years. He has really crept into our hearts. We are appealing to everyone, from the stadium to the boardroom, to donate whatever they can to this worthy cause.”
