Free-scoring Grobler targets Bloem Celtic

SuperSport United will square off with Bloemfontein Celtic in the DStv Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

Kick-off is at 5:00 pm CAT.

Matsatsantsa extended their unbeaten run to five matches in the league when they thrashed TS Galaxy 3-0 away in their previous match over the weekend.

Therefore, SuperSport remained third on the league standings - three points behind second-placed Swallows FC, but the former have a game in hand.

Kaitano Tembo, the SuperSport head coach, was impressed with how his side managed their game against Galaxy after grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the match.

"Look sometimes in football a 2-0 lead is not really comfortable because you play against opponents who have nothing to lose," Tembo said.

"There is no use even when they are losing by two or three goals. It doesn't matter to them. They started throwing numbers forward so we needed to be more disciplined.

"They play short passes so we had to be compact and deny them the spaces behind. We managed the game well and we were dangerous on transition."

Meanwhile, Celtic stretched their winless run to three matches in the league when they were held to a 1-1 draw by AmaZulu FC at home in their previous game over the weekend.

The result saw Phunya Sele Sele remain 10th on the league standings - three points behind eighth-placed Baroka FC, but the former have a game in hand.

John Maduka, the Celtic head coach, says his side needs to improve in front of goal after failing to convert their chances against AmaZulu.

“We could have done better. We should have got three points. We had a lot of chances in the final third. If you look at the game," Maduka said.

"We started slow but picked it up after we got the goal. There was a lack of opportunity, but we allowed them to get the goal.

"Going forward, we need to be clinical in front of goal and bury our chances. It was two good teams playing an open game."

PLAYERS TO WATCH: SUPERSPORT UNITED

Bradley Grobler: The marksman became SuperSport joint all-time leading goalscorer when he netted his 57th goal for the club against Galaxy. Grobler will be confident of finding the back of the net again and help his side secure a home win.

Thamsanqa Gabuza: The centre forward has formed a deadly partnership with his strike partner Grobler and he grabbed a brace in the win over Galaxy. Gabuza will be hoping to continue his scoring form when they face Celtic.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: BLOEMFONTEIN CELTIC

Lantshane Phalane: The central midfielder is one of Phunya Sele Sele's key players and he grabbed an assist during the draw against AmaZulu. Phalane will be looking to play an integral role in helping Celtic record a win in Pretoria.

Ndumiso Mabena: The Celtic captain missed a penalty against AmaZulu, but he is still an influential player in the team. Mabena will be keen to lead his troops to a victory which would end their three-match winless run.
