Matsatsantsa take Modern Future FC of Egypt in CAF Confed Cup group stage

SuperSport United kick off their CAF Confederation Cup group stage match against Modern Future FC this coming weekend.

The match is scheduled for Al-Slam Stadium in Egypt on Sunday afternoon.

Kickoff is at 3pm.

This match sees the return of coach Gavin Hunt who has been away to upskill his coaching badges by enrolling in a CAF A licence course in Johannesburg.

The coach met with different coaches from various Football clubs as he enjoyed the stay during the international FIFA break.

“We spent lots of hours in the classroom I have done these things 25 years ago, it was just like going back to school again. It was good. Interaction was fine, a lot of people I didn’t know, but there’s a lot of them I know now who work in different areas of football. It was good meeting different people and it was interesting. It was our Phase One of the four-parts,” said the Matsatsantsa head coach.

By enrolling in a CAF course obviously means that coach Hunt will be in the dugout in the Confederation Cup come Sunday afternoon.

“I have been away, we haven’t done any preparation really. We are just going to have a balanced squad over the next two games because on Wednesday we are playing again. There was no time to do any work, it was just recoveries, which is what is all about. Obviously our squad size is a huge problem, other players can’t play obviously on Wednesday as well,” said the coach.

Hunt, who did not have time to prepare the team for the upcoming two matches within a short space of time (CAF match and the DStv Premiership one against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns next week on Wednesday) emphasized that the focus is on the Sunday CAF match.

“I just want to think about Sunday and try to put a team out and obviously, it’s going to be a very strange team because we have to manage this group. We have got a lot of senior players than kids so we are going to have to try and manage this thing but these kids have to step up now and little bit. It’s a great platform for them by playing in this CAF Confederation Cup,’ Hunt stressed.

Regarding their opposition Modern Future FC, Hunt said they don’t know much about them but they are a team that can compete.

“Basic structure, you have got to look at the structure of the team.  But we have got few ideas, they are never a bad football side obviously, and it’s a much slower game of football. We are going to have to adapt. We needed to put a team together in the last minute. We did a lot of work with a lot of players, so I pretty much know all of them,” concluded Hunt.

The team leaves for Egypt on Friday night.
