Meet the SUFC prospect

SuperSport United Football Club technical team has promoted MDC prospect Gape Moralo to train with the first team.

The youngster joined the SuperSport Development Academy two years ago from the School of Excellence that is based in Elandsfontein, Kempton Park.

When did you join SuperSport United Football Club?

I joined Supersport United Youth Development Academy early in 2018 from the School of Excellence.

Who coached you at the School of Excellence?

My head coach at the School of Excellence was Mojalefa Mathebula.

Which age group did you play in?

When I joined Supersport United I first played for the Under19 side and later on during the year the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) team.

Who coached you at the United Academy?

At the Under19 I was coached by coach Tumi, Coach Junior and Coach Kopo, and in MDC It was Coach Godfrey and Coach Nico Labohm.

How is the standard of play in the MDC compared to the Absa Premiership?

It's my second season in the MDC this year, the MDC is very competitive. I haven't had a chance with the PSL but I'm definitely sure the standard is very much higher compared to the MDC. This I can tell when I train with the first team.

Tell us how you joined the first Team?

I was invited to train with the first team early in February this year after our MDC game against Orlando Pirates. I think I did well in that game hence I was given the opportunity to train with the first team. Up until now.

How is the challenge at the first team?

It's very challenging. The standard is very high, expectedly so. Focus is key but most importantly you have to be yourself.

Who do you play in the same position with?

I share the same position with Sipho Mbule and Jamie Webber. The two have been with the first team longer than me and they are obviously experienced.

What motivates you to work hard and fight for position in the first team?

I think what motivates me is the fact that being there is not a right but a privilege. It can be taken away at any moment provided I'm not doing well. That is what keeps me working hard and fighting for my position.

Any senior players who make you feel at home?

I learn a lot from a lot of senior and younger players. Players such as Mbule, Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, Teboho Moloi always encourage me to put a lot of effort into my work so that i can succeed. They also give me advice and show me where I can improve my game.  I really appreciate their support.
