Mkhwanazi debuts for United

New signing Buhle Mkhwanazi featured in the SuperSport United colours for the first time ever when they hosted Golden Arrows yesterday.

United won their first home match of the new 2021-2022 DStv Premiership season by 3-1, as they settled the score against the KwaZulu-Natal based outfit.

The 31-year-old Mkhwanazi tactically came off the bench for forward Bradley Grobler in the 84th minute.

The experienced defender joined Matsatsantsa recently during the pre-season training programme and got signed after impressing coach Kaitano Tembo and his technical team.

The former Bidvest Wits vice-captain played a crucial role in helping his club lift the Premiership title, MNT8 Cup as well as the Telkom Knockout back in 2017 respectively and managed to play just under 200 matches in his six-year-spell at the now defunct club.

According to Matsatsantsa head coach Kaitano Tembo, Mkhwanazi comes with huge experience and leadership qualities to the club.

“We have brought in Buhle Mkhwanazi to add experience and leadership at the heart of our defense.

He brings in a lot of experience as a Bafana Bafana international who has won trophies with his previous clubs. His presence will also help our young players like Keenan Phillips, Luke Fleurs, Jesse Donn and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to learn how a professional player lives on and off the field,” said the Matsatsantsa mentor.

Meanwhile Matsatsantsa will play their next league match on the road against AmaZulu on Wednesday September 15.
