SuperSport United Football Club defender Siyabonga Nhlapo completed his Sports Management degree in November 2021.
Nhlapo is one of the hard-working team members who would do some of his schoolwork at the camp and after training sessions.
Matsatsantsa website caught up with him and had a Q and A with the Soweto-born-defender.
What is the name of the course you enrolled for?
Sports Management
Where did you attend?
Vaal University of Technology
How long did it take you?
I enrolled for four years but before that I completed my Sports Management Diploma.
Is this what you want to fall back on after hanging up your soccer boots?
Yes, for sure. At the moment there are not many graduates in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), I’m using this opportunity and I want to put my foot on the door as soon as I stop playing football. I just need a mentor after playing football because you can’t have internship or in-service training without qualification.
How did you juggle your work as a professional footballer and studying?
It was difficult, in most cases I would use any opportunity like after training sessions. I was lucky because I attended night classes in most cases. Also, I would do assignments at the camp.
What really motivated you?
I thought long and hard about it because I knew that I’m going to get bored after my playing days are over. So, I decided to go with something that is in line with my current job.
When are you graduating?
In April 2022, I can’t wait!
Thank you so much Siya and good luck!
It’s my pleasure!
