The Premier Soccer League have confirmed that fans will be allowed back into local football matches from the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals that are scheduled to take place on the weekend of April 8-10.

PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza made the announcement on Tuesday following a meeting of the organisation’s Executive Committee.

He said that matches this coming weekend would be too soon for the recategorization process that needs to be undertaken in order to ensure all security and other arrangements are in place.

Fans wishing to attend games must have been fully vaccinated, or hold a negative PCR test no older than 72 hours. And venues will only be able to be filled to 50 percent of their usual capacity.

But it is welcome news for local supporters, who have been barred from venues since, ironically, the 2020 Nedbank Cup quarterfinals that were played March 13-15 that year.
