Reminiscing the 2017 MTN8 Cup Final

Result: SuperSport United 1-1 Cape Town City (SuperSport won 4-2 on penalties)

Date: 14 October 2017

Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium.

SuperSport United claimed their first MTN8 title after defeating Cape Town City 4-2 on penalties in the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The two sides went into the break with City leading 1-0.

Substitute Thabo Mnyamane made City rue their missed chances after latching onto a Grobler pass and finished beautifully to level the game at 1-1 in the 79th minute.

Unfortunately for SuperSport, Mnyamane injured himself and had to leave the field. Having made all of their substitutions, United had to go into extra time with 10 men after the scores were tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

In extra time, both sets of players looked tired and were cramping as the game was played at high intensity. Not many chances were created and the game went to penalties after the score remained at 1-1 after extra time.

Williams was fantastic in the SuperSport goals as he saved Lyle Lakay and Judas Moseamedi’s spot-kicks, with Dove Wome scoring the winning penalty to earn SuperSport a 4-2 win in the shoot-out.

Here's how they lined up:

SuperSport: 30 Williams, 20 Kekana, 4 Daniels, 29 Gould, 16 Modiba (Modiba 80'), 6 Letsholonyane (Mnyamane 53'), 8 Furman, 28 Mokoena, 13 Phala, 7 Grobler, 11 Brockie (Wome 65')
