The match was held at the Danie Craven Stadium in Cape Town.
The match kicked off at a faster pace as the home side put pressure to United who were struggling to deal with their great counter attacking.
In the 18th minute United keeper Ricardo Goss pulled a splendid save as the home side resorted on giving United a hard time on the counter.
Stellenbosch kept on launching some more counter-attacks with Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s effort went wide of the right posts.
Matsatsantsa came up with a beautiful goal attempt in the 34th minute as Etiosa Ighodaro’s effort went wide of the nearpost.
Grant Margeman sent through a brilliant delivery to Terrence Dzvukamanja but his header went wide of the posts as he couldn’t have a perfect composure.
The home side’s prayers got answered in the 37th minute as Jayden Adams netted from the second ball’s swiftly taken corner-kick as United switched off even though Goss made a super save from the initial shot taken from the corner.
With just four minutes left before the break, Siyanda Xulu released a clever pass to Ighodaro who laid it to Margeman but the United stocky midfielder’s effort went wide of the posts.
The score was 1-0 at interval.
In the 51st minute the home side conceded a penalty as keeper Oscarine Masuluke tapped Ighodaro on his head into the box and the referee pointed to the spot as the Nigerian international fell on to the ground.
Gamphani Lungu stood up to take the spot-kick and managed to convert it as the two sides were back on level terms.
The home side kept on attacking as skipper Thulani Hlatshwayo made a big clearance from Devin Titus who tormented United’s defence with Deano van Rooyen with their quick combination.
The home side kept on troubling United as the visitors were forced to defend at all costs as Lungu bravely cleared a cross from the left into the box.
Matsatsantsa were unlucky in the 65TH minute as Lyle Lakay’s top corner effort on the nearpost was parried by Masuluke to a corner.
United head coach Gavin Hunt added some more firepower as veteran striker Bradley Grobler came off the bench for Ighodaro in the 70th minute.
Four minutes on to the pitch forward Grobler got cautioned following an unfair act to Stellies keeper Masuluke.
United launched another attack in the 76th minute as Ronald Pfumbidzai’s brilliant left shot hit the upright after receiving a clever pass from Lakay.
The home side nearly punished United in the 79th minute as Mthethwa’s delivery went across the face of the goalposts with ex-United forward Iqraam Rayners who was ready to pounce mistimed the cross.
In the 80th minute Margeman took one for the team after transition play as he obstructed Rayners who was surging forward.
In the 84th minute Margeman put United in the lead as he followed up from a freekick that was brilliantly taken by Kegan Johannes just outside the box.
The score was 2-1 to the visitors.
United made sure they wanted to defend their lead as the 19-year-old Ime Okon came off the bench for Dzvukamanja in the 87th minute.
With two minutes remaining, United conceded a freekick but Fawaaz Basadien’s delivery hit the side netting as the referee added five minutes.
The final score was 2-1 to SuperSport United as they take all three points and midfielder Margeman won man of the match award.
