SuperSport United maintained their unbeaten start to the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign when they drew 0-0 with Chippa United at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The draw left Matsatsantsa in second place on the league standings with Sipho Mbule having failed to convert a late penalty, while the struggling Chilli Boys slipped down to 13th spot on the table.

Matsatsantsa launched most of their attacks from the wings with Iqraam Rayners and Moses Waiswa looking to find the in-form Thamsanqa Gabuza, who had scored in two successive games.

However, the Chippa defence which was led by the experienced Roscoe Pietersen did well to clear the crosses which were played into their area as the hosts looked to keep their third clean sheet of the season.

Siyabonga Nhlapo found space down the right wing a few minutes before the half-hour mark and he delivered a good cross at the back post that found Teboho Mokoena, whose header back across the face of goal was cleared away.

Chippa did create a goalscoring opportunity in the 38th minute, but Thabiso Lebitso's shot was comfortably saved by a well-positioned Ronwen Williams and the score was 0-0 at the interval.

SuperSport continued to push for the opening goal after the restart and they were awarded a free-kick in a promising area, and Mokoena rattled the upright with a well-taken set-piece just before the hour-mark.

Mokoena, who was very influential for the visitors in midfield, played in Ghampani Lungu with a good chip and the Zambia international lobbed keeper Ismail Watenga, but his follow up effort was blocked and cleared away in the 64th minute.

The dominant visitors were awarded a penalty with 10 minutes left after the troublesome Mokoena was fouled in the box, but substitute Sipho Mbule placed his effort wide of the target from the spot-kick, and the Chilli Boys were relieved.

Chippa then contained SuperSport in the closing stages and ultimately, the encounter ended in a 0-0 stalemate on the day.
