SSU Coach Mosoetsa on cause for Talent Search

SuperSport United Football Club head of recruitment, Welfare and High Performance Manager Godfrey Mosoetsa will kick off his Talent Search expedition together with his team this coming weekend.

The programme kicks off at the Knysna’s SAFA Eden on Saturday June 11, 2022.

The Matsatsantsa website managed to have Q and A with coach Mosoetsa regarding the project.

What key attributes are you looking at from the boys who qualify?

The focal point is at the Technique, Physique, Understanding (Tactics) and the Mental Part of the Player.

What are your expectations to ensure smooth running of the Talent Search process?

We have to be SMART in our approach because COVID 19 has had a devastating impact on players in the past two years. So, some players have not fully recovered from the after effects of COVID 19, but unfortunately we have to look for some of the best players we are looking for.

The aim is to uncover outstanding players, what does it take to have an eye for Talent Search?

Talent search is one of the most under-rated expertise which play an important role in football. There are certain special attributes needed by a scout and also some of the ‘influencing factors’ which one should have to be able to identify the type of players your Club is looking for, and not what other people think about the player you are watching.

What will you be covering in the First Phase?

If I understand your question well, we will only cover a fraction or the tip of the iceberg of the whole of South Africa because we must be aware that there are 52 SAFA Regions, and to be able to do that it needs an arm and a leg. It is not as easy as all the people think.

This project or similar programme is not happening for the first time – tell us about prominent players that were discovered by your team in the past?

We have had generations of players who have come through similar projects, open trials and/or Schools or SAFA Tournaments:

Kamohelo Mokotjo, Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule (Free State), Kermit Erasmus, Ronwen Williams and Sibusiso Maziko (Eastern Cape), Thato Mokeke (Northern Cape), Lyle Lakay, Keagan Buchanan and Luke Fleurs (Western Cape), Miguel Timm, Keegan Ritchie and Thapelo Maseko (Gauteng), Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Tendamudzimu Matodzi (Limpopo) and Karabo Masehela (North West), etc.

Thank you so much for your time coach, have a safe journey and the entire Matsatsantsa family wishes you and your team all the best!
