The lads deservedly won the league under the guidance of the legendary United captain Thabo September and Roscoe Krieling.
We managed to conduct Q and A with one of the team members Aphiwe Baliti who emerged victorious in his first season with the team.
When did you join the SuperSport United Football Club academy?
I joined the academy two years ago (2021) from Mpheni Defenders FC, my hometown outfit.
Please tell us how it all happened?
I came from an assessment back home, that’s where the SuperSport United coaches spotted me.
What position do you play?
I’m a left-back, but sometimes I can switch to the right, comfortably so.
In which age group/groups do you qualify to play in the SAFA national teams?
I qualify for the under23 squad.
Do you have caps in the national teams?
No, I don’t, I work hard in every opportunity that comes my way to get a call up.
How does it feel winning the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) league for the first time?
It feels amazing because this was my DDC season. I joined a group of talented players with brilliant coaches as well as the staff members.
What was the players secret after going all out right at the end?
We all wanted to win the league at the end. Everyone was hyped up and super motivated as soon as we saw how close we were.
What is your message to your teammates?
My message to the boys would be, “We are not done yet, lads! We still need to push even harder to play on the first team level.”
What role did the coaches play to keep all the players on their toes?
Both coaches, Thabo September and Roscoe Krieling are like father figures. They motivated us in all aspects. They made sure that we kept our heads high and always stayed focused until the very end.
