The match was held at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
SuperSport missed a scoring opportunity in the 4th minute as keeper Denis Onyango tipped Lungu’s effort over the post after receiving a brilliant delivery on the left by Onismor Bhasera.
Three minutes later Peter Shalulile missed a clear-cut chance after Siyabonga Nhlapo’s poor clearance at the back.
Inside the first 10 minutes Shalulile scored for Sundowns as United Failed to clear a long pass from Themba Zwane.
United kept on pushing for an equalizer as Moses Ndhondhi released a long range effort in the 12th minute to test keeper Onyango.
Visitors Sundowns conceded a free-kick after former United defender Grant Kekana tripped Jamie Webber just outside the box.
Matsatsantsa won a free-kick as Webber’s shot blocked by Sundowns’ wall and Keenan Phillips followed up with a powerful shot that was saved by Onyango.
In the 25th minute Thabiso Kutumela picked up an injury and Gaston Sirino came off the bench to replace him.
In the 36th Matsatsantsa conceded a free-kick after captain Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s wrong tackle to Neo Maema.
Kegan Johannes cleared a dangerous delivery on the left as the match went into halftime.
The halftime score was 1-0 to Sundowns.
In the beginning of the first half Matsatsantsa kept on pushing for an equalizer as Nhlapo was cautioned for rough challenge to Rivaldo Coetzee in the 50th minute.
United kept on knocking on the door in the early stages of the second half but Sundowns’ defence was difficult to crack.
In the 60th minute United won a set-piece and Ndhondhi sent a quality delivery into the box as Thami Gabuza’s towering header was collected by keeper Onyango.
In the 63rd minute Gamphani Lungu made way for Selaelo Rasebotja after picking up an injury.
In the 65th minute new signing Kegan Johannes was booked for a challenge on Zwane as the match got tougher towards the end.
In the 70th minute keeper Boalefa Pule pulled a wonderful save as he denied Shalulile to score a brace.
In the 78th minute Webber received a caution that sees him missing United’s next match.
In the 83rd minute defender Luke Fleurs came off the bench for forward Iqraam Rayners.
In the 85th minute Shalulile missed another scoring opportunity but Matsatsantsa kept on pushing for an equalizer.
United missed an equalizing opportunity in the last minute after a well taken free-kick by Ndhondhi but Shalulile came to the rescue after a scramble in the box as Sundowns run away with three points.
The final score ended 1-0 in favour of leaders Sundowns.
