SuperSport United lost 2-0 to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in their midweek DStv Premiership meeting in Atteridgeville.
The match was held at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.
As usual, the match kicked off with an exciting momentum with Sundowns enjoying most of the possession in the early stage of the first half.
However, the home side SuperSport also created a lot of chances but were disappointed by poor finishing on the counter.
On the half-hour mark, SuperSport conceded a goal after failing to deal with a cross from the left hand side as Peter Shalulile put Sundowns ahead.
The score was 1-0 to Sundowns.
Matsatsantsa were smart after realizing they couldn’t match their opponents and resorted on the counter but were not effective to convert their chances.
In the referee’s optional time (45+1), SuperSport conceded a set-piece and failed to deal with it as Sundowns cleverly netted their second strike through Lucas Ribeiro.
The halftime score was 2-0.
In the beginning of the second half, Sundowns created a few scoring chances as Neo Maema and Lebohang Maboe’s brilliant combination got fluffed by the latter in what was supposed to be their third strike.
Subsequently, Namibian forward Shalulile was unlucky as his effort went over the post following a good pass from substitute Khuliso Mudau.
Matsatsantsa had a few promising moments through young substitute Shandre Campbell but struggled to repeat the same level of threat they managed in the early stage of the match.
The final score was 2-0 to Sundowns.
