SSU move to third place

Late goal moves SuperSport United to position three on the Absa Premiership table as they beat Bidvest Wits 1-0 in Johannesburg on Friday night.

The match was held at Bidvest Stadium, at the University of Witwatersrand campus.

Sensation Sipho Mbule scored with a towering header after receiving a brilliant delivery from substitute Aubrey Modiba who came off the bench for Evans Rusike in the 87th minute.

The home side looked more hungrier than Matsatsantsa as they were looking for an early lead in the first half.

However, the United defence kept them at bay with young Luke Fleurs showing signs of maturity as he partnered very well with veteran Clayton Daniels in the centre-back.

Also, Ronwen Williams was up to the task as he pulled some brilliant saves in the first half as Mxolisi Macuphu who was in the United books on a loan deal last season gave them a hard time.

The half time score was 0-0.

Matsatsantsa continued with the same attitude as they were also creating some scoring opportunities for Bradley Grobler and the big centre-forward Thami “Ganda-Ganda” Gabuza but the Wits defence was hard to crack.

A few minutes after the half-hour mark coach Kaitano Tembo introduced the national under23 player Jamie Webber for midfielder Teboho Mokoena in the 68th minute.

Mokoena’s replacement preceded Modiba’s introduction towards the dying minute of the match and the Limpopo-born-utility player created some big chance that influenced the results of the match.

After a few skilful touches on the right flank Modiba send a beautiful delivery that found well composed Mbule whose towering header gave Wits keeper no chance and the under23 international put his team in the lead.

The final score was 1-0 to United.

Young Fleurs won man of the match award.
