SuperSport United have been knocked out of the 2021 MTN8 Cup quarterfinal by Golden Arrows.

The match was held at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

Arrows created more scoring chances as opposed to the visiting team SuperSport United.

The halftime score was 0-0.

In the beginning of the first half both sides showed some intentions of wanting to get the lead though they created few scoring chances.

The home side were the first to be in the lead after Matsatsantsa conceded a penalty five minutes into the second half.

This after midfielder Teboho Mokoena pulled back Nduduzo Sibiya inside the 18-yard area.

Zimbabwean international Lionel Mutizwa converted from the spot to put his side in the lead.

The score was 1-0 to Arrows.

United pushed for an equalizer but the Arrows defence denied them chances as they were solid at the back.

The visitors kept on pushing but were denied on numerous occasions by the Arrows keeper Sifiso Mlungwana.

In the 68th minute United made a double substitution as Iqraam Rayners and Gamphani Lungu came off the bench for Bradley Grobler and Jamie Webber respectively.

In the 77th minute, substitute Lungu equalized for United with a well anticipated shot with his right foot at the near post after a brilliant move initiated by Teboho Mokoena.

The score was 1-1.

The equalizer brought United back into the match as they went on to create some more chances.

In the 90th minute United squandered an opportunity as they had no numbers upfront after Thami Gabuza won a good ball and played it back to Sipho Mbule.

The final score was 1-1 at regulation time and the match went into extra time.

In the 98th minute Mbule released a pinpoint pass to substitute Rayners who cut inside and drilled it on the roof of the net.

The score was 2-1 to United.

102nd Nhlapo conceded freekick but United cleared it away.

In the 105th minute the match went into halftime and resumed after a brief break.

In the 114th minute Thamsanqa Gabuza was cautioned after a late tackle to the Arrows player.

Arrows put some pressure to the visitors and also dominated some possession.

In the 117th minute right-back Keenan Phillips conceded a freekick which was taken by substitute Siphamandla Sabelo.

Matsatsantsa defence couldn’t deal with the set-piece as Michael Gumede equalized in the 118th minute.

The extra-time final score was 2-2 and the match went into penalties.

Mbule, Lungu and Gabuza converted their spot-kicks while Mokoena and Rayners were unlucky to score as Matsatsantsa lost 4-3.
