SSU register first home win of the season against Arrows

SuperSport United have registered their first home victory of the new 2021-2022 DStv Premiership season.

This after Matsatsantsa beat Golden Arrows 3-1 in the midweek match that was held at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday afternoon.

In the 22nd minute Teboho Mokoena initiated a good move and connected well with Bradley Grobler who laid the ball to Sipho Mblule but his effort sailed over the post

In the 28th minute defender Siyabonga Nhlapo released a good delivery to Iqraam Rayners who managed to get the ball to a well composed Mokoena who netted with his right foot.

The score was 1-0 to United.

Three minutes later Rayners was denied by Arrows keeper Sifiso Mlungwana into the box after a brilliant delivery by Grobler on the right.

The halftime score was 1-0 to SuperSport United.

Matsatsantsa continued with the same fighting spirit as they were looking to double the lead at the beginning of the second half.

Ten minutes later forward Grobler released a pinpoint pass to Mbule who outjumped Arrows’ defence and doubled the lead with a beautiful header.

The score was 2-0 to the home side.

In the 76th minute Williams punched the ball away after a brilliant move of short passes from the visiting side.

In the 77th minute coach Kaitano Tembo introduced big centre-forward Thami Gabuza for Jamie Webber

The visitors kept on pressing patiently with some short interplay but United right-back Siyabonga Nhlapo pulled an acrobatic clearance for a throw-in.

In the 81st minute left-back Onismor Bhasera released a long pass to Gabuza who made a perfect run and scored after coming off the bench for Webber.

The score was 3-0 to United.

In the 84th minute Buhle Mkhwanazi made his debut for United as he replaced Grobler.

In the 89th minute Matsatsantsa conceded a penalty as Nhlapo brought down Pule Mmodi into the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Sphamandla Sabelo converted from the spot to make the score 3-1.

The referee put three minutes of additional time as Tembo made a double substitution.

Moses Ndhondhi came on for Mbule while Jesse Donn made way for Gape Moralo.

The final score was 3-1 to the home side as Donn won his maiden man of the match award.
