SSU skipper on MTN8 Cup title defence

SuperSport United captain Ronwen Williams emphasized that they are not focusing on the opposition in their opening match of the new season, rather on themselves.

Matsatsantsa will defend the MTN8 Cup title on the road when they take on newcomers TTM FC this coming weekend.

The match will be staged at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday October 17.

Kickoff is at 15:00

This is going to be a tough encounter between the two outfits as Matsatsantsa are coming up against the side they have never faced before.

Although United don’t know much about TTM, they will certainly rely on their Cup experience come Saturday afternoon.

The SuperSport United Football Club website conducted Q and A with club captain Ronwen Williams.

How is the big match build up at training this week?

All preparations are going well, the guys are looking sharp and ready to return to play.

How is the team looking as far as preparations?

The new guys are settling in well and know their roles and responsibilities, everyone is looking hungry and we are excited to be back doing what we love.

Our opponents are a closed book to us, we don’t know much about them and we obviously need to be cautious?

This is true, we don’t know much about our opponents but at SSU we never focus on the other team, we prepare the way we want to play and we have our way of approaching each game and the technical team has come up with a very good approach to this game. Our focus is on us.

Playing teams like this one, how is the approach in your opinion?

To play our normal free flowing game, attack and press and force them not to settle.

Defending titles come with its own pressure and at the same time every team wants to see themselves in the last stage of the competition? However, Cup pedigree will play a big role in this one.

We know how to win Cup competitions, it is one step at a time, get over the first one and then prepare well for the next, we have the experience so we should put it to use.

What is your message to the Matsatsantsa supporters?

We miss you, we will be better this season so we have much more good times and in this difficult time we want our supporters to be happy, so we will give it our all to make you guys happy.
