SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC played to a 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership encounter on Friday night.

The game was held at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville in Tshwane and this was the first official meeting in the New Year after a long break.

 The two sides displayed some good football with fine touches but the home side created a lot of scoring chances as opposed to the visitors.

The visitors nearly grabbed an early lead in the 15th minute as United keeper Washington Arubi used his feet instead of diving onto the ball after his defence got dispossessed.

In the 20th a brilliant move initiated by Gamphani Lungu to grafter Siphesihle Ndlovu who laid a champagne pass to Shandre Campbell who dispatched a pinpoint pass to veteran Bradley Grobler who finished with a powerful header.

The home side wasted a lot of scoring chances with young Campbell keeping Stellenbosch busy on the left wing with his quick runs and pinpoint deliveries. .

The halftime score was 1-0 to the home side.

Matsatsantsa continued where they left off in the first half as they continued creating scoring opportunities but the finishing was not up to scratch.

In the 55th minute veteran Onismor Bhasera’s powerful header hit the woodwork after receiving a brilliant delivery from Lungu.

The visitors have subsequently put pressure to United who got punished by their former forward Iqraam Rayners due to poor clearance from a throw-in.

In the 66th minute Gavin Hunt introduced fresh legs as Lyle Lakay came off the bench for Campbell whereas Etiosa Ighodaro substituted Terrence Dzvukamanja who picked up an injury after he collided with Stellenbosch keeper Sage Stephens.  

In the 69th minute the match was briefly stopped as Stellenbosch keeper couldn’t finish the match after his collision with Dzvukamanja and was replaced by ex-Baroka keeper Oscarine Masuluke.

In the 90+ minute, debutant Keagan Allan got second bookable offence and was unfortunately sent off.

The final score was 1-1 to the home side as Margeman won man of the match award.
