SSU take on new boys Richards Bay

SuperSport United take on rookies Richards Bay FC in their crucial fifth DStv Premiership match of the new season.

The first ever midweek meeting between the two PSL outfits is scheduled for King Goodwill Stadium on Wednesday night in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

According to defender Kegan Johannes, Matsatsantsa are highly motivated and still in search of maximum points.

“The mood at the camp is very good and positive, and the guys are looking forward to the match,” said Johannes.

Matsatsantsa have so far bagged two points after four matches played, two at home and the same number of games on the road.

“Look in all the matches we’ve played so far I think we were very unfortunate with the opportunities that we are creating.

Obviously it’s not the ideal start that we would’ve wanted but it’s still early in the season and we still have time to build on our performances so it’s not a bad start at all,” he said.

The positive side of things from visitors United is that they have been creating a lot of scoring opportunities in their last four matches but were not clinical in front of goals.

“We just have to keep on creating opportunities which we do and then everything else will take care of itself. We would have probably won some of those matches if not all,” said the SuperSport defender.

This is not going to be an easy visit for Matsatsantsa as Richards Bay have so far indicated that they are not in the elite league just to add numbers.

“Richards Bay are a side that has a lot of experienced players but obviously no match is ever an easy one so we’ll go into this one with the same approach aiming for maximum points at the end of the day,” Johannes concluded.

SuperSport will pin their hopes on players such as the big centre-forward Thami “Ganda-Ganda” Gabuza, Aubrey Ngoma, Johannes, Luke Fleurs and the youthful pair of Selaelo Rasebotja and Thalente Mbatha.

In their last league match at home, Matsatsantsa played to a goalless draw against Orlando Pirates this past weekend.
