SSU, TS Galaxy share the spoils

SuperSport United Football Club were unlucky to go level with leaders and cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

This after Matsatsantsa played to a goalless draw with the Mpumalanga province based rookies TS Galaxy on Friday night.

The match was held at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

It was the visiting side who dominated the proceedings in the early stages of the opening half but United keeper Ronwen Williams made few vital saves.

Matsatsantsa got their first opportunity from the corner-kick 10 minutes into the match but defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe couldn’t direct his header with Galaxy keeper Marlon Heughs caught far off his line.

In the 19th minute a well taken delivery from Marks Munyai on the right was mistimed by Mxolisi Macuphu who nearly scored after failing to connect into the box.

Four minutes later, Lindokuhle Mbatha laid a beautiful pass to Macuphu who was denied by Williams in a one-on-one.

It was the ex-United man Shozi again whose close range shot on the left was saved by Williams for a corner-kick.

United’s second opportunity came in the 42nd minute when Teboho Mokoena failed to connect with a well anticipated pass by Jamie Webber who put the ball into his path but his effort went over the posts.

The halftime score was 0-0.

United went into the second half with a different approach and were awarded a set-piece in four minutes later as Mbule’s effort went wide.

In the 54th minute Galaxy initiated an inter-play with Lindokuhle Mbatha, Shozi and Macuphu but Williams pulled another brilliant save.

Coach Kaitano Tembo introduced the DRC international Guily Manziba for Kuda Mahachi in the 56th minute after picking up an injury.

As the match progresses former Black Leopards skipper Marks Munyai was cautioned after a late reckless tackle to Mokoena in the 68th minute.

The Matsatsantsa mentor introduced another substitute Lucky Mohomi in the 73rd minute.

In the 76th minute the visitors were reduced to 10-man as substitute Sphiwe Mahlangu was sent off for a reckless challenge moment after coming on from the bench.

In the 86th minute Tembo applied his tactics as he introduced Ghampani Lungu for Lucky Mohomi to speed up the tempo of the match.

In the 89th minute Galaxy keeper Marlon Heughs was cautioned for time wasting before the referee’s 5 minutes added time.

The final score was 0-0.
