SSU unlucky to extend lead on DStv Premiership table

SuperSport United dropped maximum points in their DStv Premiership match against Orlando Pirates on the weekend.

The match was held at the Soweto’s Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

Matsatsantsa went into the match with a big chance of extending the lead on the DStv Premiership log standings.

The visitors created numerous scoring chances in the first half as Pirates conceded a lot of set-pieces but Matsatsantsa were unlucky to convert them.

Ex-Pirates trio – Tyson Hlatshwayo, Zakhele Lepasa and Siphesihle Ndlovu started the match as they faced their former team since the later pair joined United on a loan deal.

The halftime score was 0-0.

The match resumed with the same pace as both sides battled to break the ice.

Matsatsantsa looked dangerous on the counter-attack and they had a chance to break the deadlock in the 72nd minute when Zambian international Ghampani Lungu set-up Patrick Maswanganyi who beat his marker, but goalkeeper Sipho Chaine denied him.

The home side continued searching for late goal and they were awarded a penalty after Monnapula Saleng was brought down into the box.

Thapelo Xoki raised his hand and the former Golden Arrows man converted from the spot-kick to put Pirates in the lead in the 79th minute.

The final score was 1-0 to the home side.
