SSU welcome Dondol Stars in Cup clash

SuperSport United welcome lower division side Dondol Stars FC in the 2023 Nedbank Cup Last 32 round.

The midweek Cup match is scheduled for Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday night.

Kickoff is at 19:30.

United are going into this match following their league victory against Cape Town City at the same venue last Saturday.

The tricky and difficult part in this encounter is that Dondol Stars are a closed book to the home side and the important thing United can do is to avoid being complacent.

However, United’s Cup pedigree is unquestionable as they won the same Cup on three occasions with different coaches including current coach Gavin Hunt who won it 11 years ago in his first stint with Matsatsantsa.

“We are playing Dondol Stars, they are top of the table in the third division league, they are a good side and they are highly motivated.

Even if we make some changes we got to believe that the players are good enough to get the job done. But anyway we’ll see what happens,” said the Matsatsantsa mentor Gavin Hunt who won the Nedbank Cup in the 2011-2012 season.

The home side will rely heavily on players such as Thapelo Maseko, Thami Gabuza, Grant Margeman, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Bradley Grobler.

Last season United were knocked out of the competition in the Last 8 (quarterfinal) after losing 3-2 to Tshakhuma FC In extra-time at the Thohoyandou Stadium.
