SUFC Academy novice Rasebotja joins first team

SuperSport United Academy youngster Selaelo Rasebotja joined the first team and formed part of the squad that went into the Bio-Bubble recently to complete the 2019-2020 campaign.

Rasebotja, who hails from the Limpopo province, was a member of both the United MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) outfit and the national under20 squad.

United website conducted Q and A with the gifted midfielder regarding the opportunity he was given by the United technical staff.

How did you join United?

I joined SuperSport United in this year, in January to be precise. I was scouted while at the School of Excellence during the junior tournament such as Engen Cup and the Gauteng Development League.

How is life at the SUFC Academy?

Life at the Academy is good, there is a lot of similarities compared to the school of Excellence in terms of training and the social life. I think I was able to adapt quickly to the environment because I played with players such as Bilal Baloyi and Oswin Appollis in the national Under20 team during the COSAFA in Zambia last year and there’s also Gape Moralo who was my senior at the School of Excellence.  He also helped me a lot to settle.

What is your take on this opportunity since you are a member of the first team?

Being part of the first team for me is a dream come true.  It’s an opportunity for me to establish myself.  I would really love to contribute to the club as much as I possibly can in terms of scoring and assisting and possibly win titles. It’s a huge opportunity for me that can also make some big changes to my life.  I’m grateful for the platform that the club has given me to showcase my talent and help change not only my life but my family life as well and also pave way for other academy players to be given the kind of opportunity that I got.

How is the first team setup?

The first team setup honestly is a very motivating atmosphere to be in because there are players who will push you to work harder.  There’s always something new to learn in the first team, particularly from the senior players.

How was the training programme since the league resumed?

Training has been good, we are happy to be back on the field, it’s been almost five months without football so it’s been demanding but exciting at the same time.

What encouraging words did you draw from the senior players?

I have been getting a lot of motivational talks from senior players such as Grant Kekana and Boalefa Pule to mention a few. They keep pushing me to always give my best every day. I have learnt that hard work and dedication will always push one to succeed.
