SuperSport United beat Sekhukhune United 3-2 in a five-goal thriller in the DStv Diski Challenge Festival match in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The event was held at the Bidvest Stadium in Braamfontein.
The Polokwane-based-outfit opened the scoring account in the 24th minute by Sozabile Dlamini after a well-executed move.
However, the Sekhuhkune goal celebration was short-lived as the legendary coach Thabo September’s lads levelled matters through Thapelo Maseko who rattled the roof of the net after a brilliant delivery on the right by Tendamudzimu Matodzi.
On the stroke of halftime Thabang Makubo came off the bench for Jabu Matsio who initiated the move on Matsatsantsa’s equalizer.
The halftime score was 1-1.
At the beginning of the second half the Super boys continued the match with the same fighting spirit as Maseko completed his brace with a rebound from Moeti Modimooarabetse powerful left shot that was too difficult to handle by the Sekhukhune keeper.
The score was 2-1 to SuperSport.
In the 77th minute coach September brought in Kabelo Selowa for Thabang Mahlangu.
Two minutes later the match was briefly stopped as Matodzi and Lucky Letwaba collided with heads in aerial tussle in the middle of the pitch.
The match resumed after the two players received medical attention.
In the 80th minute Sekhukhune netted an equalizer, a replica of Matsatsantsa’ second goal from the boot of Nkululeko Hlongo.
Two minutes later, again the Sekhukhune’s excitement was short-lived as Caleb Avontuur scored with a beautiful header after a brilliant set-piece by Bryn Delle.
The final score was 3-2 to SuperSport United.
