SuperSport United will go head to head with Sekhukhune United in a DStv Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Friday.

Kick-off is at 7:30pm CAT (SA, GMT+2).

Matsatsantsa bounced back to winning ways when they defeated Royal AM 3-1 at home on Tuesday and it was their third victory in their last four league matches.

The Tshwane giants are placed third on the DStv Premiership standings - three points and five points behind second-placed Richards Bay and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

Gavin Hunt, the SuperSport head coach, feels that his side is on the right track following their win over Royal AM and he also stressed the importance of being consistent ahead of their clash with Sekhukhune.

“It is not about me, it is about the players buying into what I want. If you don’t have the right mentality even if you have the best players, if they don’t want to play and don’t see the game like you see it, it will be a problem," Hunt said.

“You need the players to buy in. We are a long way short of a challenge (for the title) but I think we are a team that can be competitive and we need to be consistent. I want SuperSport to get back to a team challenging for the league titles.

“There is a mixture of young and old and we need to get the balance right and that takes time. I thought tonight [Tuesday] was a performance more like I’m used to from a club like SuperSport. So it is important we build on that.”

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune snapped their six-match winless run in the DStv Premiership when they claimed a 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates at home on Tuesday.

As a result, Babina Noko are placed 11th on the league standings - a point above the relegation zone and three points behind sixth-placed Stellenbosch FC.

Kaitano Tembo, the Sekhukhune head coach, reflected on their win over Pirates and he urged his charges to focus on their upcoming encounter against SuperSport.

“I think it is well-deserved three points, we played very well. We started very well in terms of possession," Tembo said.

"We got into good areas and we did what we wanted to do in turning their defence and forcing them to defend on the sides. We had some good chances. I think when they went one man down (Pirates has Thabiso Monyane sent off in the second half) we slowed down the pace.

"But after making the changes, we energised the team. We deserved three points, we are putting this game behind us now and we are looking forward to Friday’s game.”
