Multinational mobile telecommunications company MTN launched the 2023 MTN8 Cup on Thursday afternoon.

The launch was held at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title sponsor (DStv) headquarters Multichoice in Randburg, Johannesburg.

The occasion was graced by PSL officials, club coaches and eight captains of the participating teams.

The teams are defending champions Orlando Pirates, Sekhukhune United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows, Cape Town City, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch and SuperSport United.

Matsatsantsa welcome Cape Town-based-outfit Stellenbosch FC on Sunday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo. Kickoff is at 18h00.

In their previous participation under coach Gavin Hunt in his first stint, United lost 2-1 to Moroka Swallows in the Cup final back in 2012 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

The lucrative competition kicks off this coming Saturday between hosts Sundowns FC and Swallows FC. The match starts at 15h00.

Interestingly, sponsor MTN has designed a new MTN8 trophy that was also revealed at the launch.
