SuperSport tackle high flying Chiefs

SuperSport United will face off with Kaizer Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 6:00 pm CAT.

Matsatsantsa saw their eight-match unbeaten run in the league come to an end when they lost 1-0 to Chippa United away in their previous match.

As a result, SuperSport are sitting on the third spot on the league standings - four points behind second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kaitano Tembo, the SuperSport coach, is confident that his side can mount a serious challenge for the league title.

“We’ve got a very good team, to be honest, we’ve got enough talent to really give it a go," Tembo said.

"But at the same time I think we’ve got a few youngsters and (with them) you are going to have games where you don’t find the consistency.

“We have to make sure we keep believing in them and motivating them. We just have to regroup and focus on the next game.”

Meanwhile, Chiefs extended their unbeaten run to nine matches in the league after drawing 1-1 with Maritzburg United away in their last game.

Amakhosi remain at the top of the league standings - seven points above second-placed Sundowns with 16 matches left.

Ernst Middendorp, the Chiefs coach, says it is important for his side to start the New Year with a victory.

“The match against SuperSport is a very important game. We aim to start 2020 in the proper way and that is the target," Middendorp said.

“No. But I’ll repeat it again and again, why should we jump around doing mathematical work, using the calculator, whatever? No.”

SuperSport United: PLAYERS TO WATCH

Sipho Mbule: The attacking midfielder was named Absa Premiership Player of the Month for December. Mbule will be keen to continue his impressive form for Matsatsantsa.

Bradley Grobler: The marksman scored against Chiefs in the first round clash. Grobler will be hoping to find the back of the net once again against Amakhosi.

Kaizer Chiefs: PLAYERS TO WATCH

Lebogang Manyama: The midfielder netted his fourth league goal of the season against Maritzburg. Manyama has the ability to inspire the Soweto giants to a win over SuperSport.

Samir Nurkovic: The marksman is one of the top goal-scorers in the league with eight goals. Nurkovic will be looking to be eager to maintain his great form in Tshwane.
