The main priority right now is safety - Williams

The SuperSport United Football Club website conducted Q and A with goalkeeper Ronwen Willams regarding the Coronavirus pandemic.

Williams is optimistic that highly trained medical experts will eventually find a cure, and the situation will go back to normal.

How does Covid19 affect global sporting fraternity and most of all the global economy?

It is obviously affecting every sporting code negatively, clubs as well as television broadcasters are losing out on a lot of money but the main priority right now should not be loss of income but rather the safety and health of the players, staff and family members.

Again, the Covid19 killed the team’s momentum as Matsatsantsa had already started winning again?

It definitely came at the wrong time for us, as we just got six points off our last two matches and we had good momentum and confidence going into the Bloemfontein Celtic game (which has been postponed due to Covid19), but we need to stay healthy first and then focus on finishing the league strongly.

The local market is also affected negatively. Thoughts?

At this moment everything is having a negative effect due to the Covid19, but people shouldn’t panic as everything will eventually pick back up.

What is your take on state president Cyril Ramaphosa’s appeal to all sectors nationwide to cooperate and together pull in the same direction?

Everyone who has a voice in society should use their voice to firstly make aware of the crisis that’s going on and then find positive solutions going forward so that the virus does not become deadly in South Africa.

What is your view on how WHO (World Health Organization) and other medical experts came together to spend sleepless nights preaching the gospel of how to stay hygienic to prevent this pandemic?

The experts have done extremely well by giving us all the basic information on how to stay healthy and safe during this difficult time, it shouldn’t only be due to this virus it should remain forever, where South Africans practice healthy habits to cleanse our society and country.
