This after the home side came from behind to beat United 2-1 to secure their first win in the new campaign.
The match was held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.
Matsatsantsa created a few scoring opportunities in the early stage of the match with new signing Thabang Sibanyoni’s header just went over the crossbar after a cross from Siyabonga Nhlapo.
As the match opened up, it was Sibanyoni again who got another chance in the halfway mark but his volley in the box was tipped over the crossbar by keeper Veli Mothwa.
The home side gained momentum in the latter phase of the first half as Thembela Sikhakhane’s glancing header sailed over the post on the stroke of halftime.
The halftime score was 0-0.
Eleven minutes after the restart DStv Diski Challenge winger Thapelo Maseko put Matsatsantsa in the lead with a thumping set-piece from the edge of the box that took a deflection and swerved over AmaZulu keeper Mothwa.
The home side made double substitution as Gabadinho Mhango and Bonginkosi Ntuli came off the bench for Siphesihle Maduna and Sibusiso Magaga.
The pair changed the complexion of the match as AmaZulu put some tremendous pressure to United.
Mhango equalized for AmaZulu after netting from a cross from Riaan Hanamub in the 65th minute.
The score was 1-1 to both sides.
In the 71st minute United’s keeper Boalefa Pule pulled a brilliant save from Augustine Kwem after receiving a superb delivery on the left.
Three minutes later it was Kwem again whose header went over the crossbar as AmaZulu kept on piling a lot of pressure to United.
In the 77th minute substitute Ntuli nodded home after receiving a beautiful delivery on the right from Kwem’s right boot.
The score was 2-1 to the home side.
In the last five minutes of the match United fought for an equalizer as Iqraam Rayners’ header went just over the crossbar from Maseko’s pinpoint cross on the left.
Matsatsantsa kept on putting some more pressure to level matters as Aubrey Ngoma’s close range effort was deflected to a corner-kick after a well-orchestrated move.
The final score was 2-1 to AmaZulu as United dropped points on the road in their first match of the new season.
